Meta Tag Optimization Service and Course
One of the most common errors I see is incorrectly optimized meta tags.
Probably because these tags are invisible to the website visitor hence they
aren’t considered important, and also because many new website owners don’t even
know they exist.
What are the Meta Tags
Meta Tags are used to describe information about the web page to search
engine robots, browsers and other automatic programs.
They are contained between the <HEAD> </HEAD> tags near the top of the page and are invisible to the end user. Although there are many meta tags we really only need to concern ourselves with the 3 tags that affect the page optimization:
- Title
- Description
- Keywords
The easiest way to view your meta tags is to open your web page in source
mode. To do that open the page with Internet explorer or Firefox and then select
view>source or view>page source (Firefox).
It is very difficult to get web page to rank unless the main meta tags are
correctly optimized.
Optimization isn’t really that difficult but it does require a little basic
knowledge and a disciplined approach as it’s very easy to forget to do it.
If you do a search for "no title" it shows over 140 million pages. These are
pages that have forgot to optimize the most important tag of all- the title
tag. Two of the top three are pages from university sites.
